or does it fly past like birds in the sky
or blow like the winds of change
or just keep crashing against the waves of reality ..
The Rock Solid Foundation -dies get worn out nad worn down but I recognise the Old Familiar site ... still standing .(for a while longer?)
Your Mom Altina De Souza Lobo my neighbor in Vuga Zanzibar did go to school there ? Correct ? If 'yes' for how long ?
She came back to teach.. after she went someplace else to finish her education and taught me in GRADE 10 1954 - 1955..
One of my favourite spots in Zanzibar.
So wonderful to learn all this. It look as if most children 1920's -30's born in Zanzibar and the rest of East Africa had to go overeseas to complete their education many as early as your Mom.
My Karachi Born Mom arrived in Pemba - for her first year of marriage, WW 11 19 38-39 and Our Family life. She became a close friend of Lucy Machado .They stayed in touch . till their death in the new MillenniumVancouver (Mom) 2000 Lucy visted From Australia..

Hi Hazel,
My mom went to SJCS,Zanzibar till age seven. She then was taken to Bombay to go to school there. WWII then broke out and passenger ship service across the Indian Ocean stopped.
My mom returned to Zanzibar only after she graduated from college. In Zanzibar, she was advised to get a degree in education, so she went back to Bombay and did so.
She taught at SJCS, Zanzibar on return. In those days, a teacher could earn as much as a civil engineer - which her brother was.
Btw, her Std 1 teacher, Mrs Machado was also my Std 1 teacher. I think Mrs Machado taught everyone from the 1930s to the 1960s.
